BREAST LIFT

Sagging breasts are a real concern for many women. Loss of skin elasticity, gravity and other factors such as pregnancy and nursing can cause the breasts to lose their natural shape and firmness.

A breast lift or Mastopexy is a cosmetic breast surgical procedure to lift and reshape the sagging breasts. Mastopexy may also involve repositioning the areola and nipple. Some women may have small breast or may have lost a significant amount of breast volume after pregnancy. In such cases placement of breast implants in addition to breast lift may be required to increase the size and firmness of the breasts. The implants are placed most often underneath the breast tissue or under the muscle of the chest wall.

How long does the procedure take?

Breast lifts are usually performed under general anesthesia. The procedure generally takes 1.5 to 3.5 hours to perform.

What age should I get a breast lift?

Between the ages of 26 and 35 may be the right age for you to receive mastopexy if you are experiencing significant sagging due to pregnancy and nursing. Women who receive a breast lift after childbirth often benefit from having a breast reduction or breast augmentation performed at the same time.

How long does it take to heal?

However, most surgeons agree that a full recovery can take on average six weeks or so, and women may notice that they feel perfectly fine after about a week. Your surgeon will be able to assess your overall health and give you a more definitive timeline prior to the procedure.

Who are the candidates for a breast lift?

If you look in the mirror and notice that your nipples point downward or sit below your breast crease, you may be a good candidate for a breast lift. Sagging tissue or the loss of volume can cause the nipple/areola to change position, stretch or become larger.

What are considered saggy breasts?

They don’t consider a woman’s breasts to be sagging unless the nipple is positioned below the inframammary fold.
